All the guests were seated around the break-fast table when Alpa Rupani strode into the room, clutching the morning paper. she took a long white envelope from the pile and handed it over to her oldest pal.
A puzzled look came over to Gia's face. who could possibely know that she was spending weekend with old friends. Then, she saw the familiar handwriting, and had to smile at his ingenuity. she hoped her husband Nick, who was seated at the far end of the table, hadn't noticed, and was relieved to see that he remained engrossed in his copy of The Times.
Gia was trying to wedge her thumb into the corner of the envelope while keeping an eye on Nick, when suddenly he glanced accross at her and smiled. she returned the smile, dropped the envelope in her lap, picked up her fork and concentrated in her breakfast.
she made no attempt to retrieve the letter until her husband had disappeared back behind the paper. once he had turned to the business section, she placed the envelope on her right hand side, picked up the butter knife and slipped it into the corner slowly, she began to slit it open. Having completed the task, she returned the knife to its place by the side of the dish.

Before making her next move, she once again glance across in the direction of her husband, to check that he was still hidden behind his newspaper. He was..
She held down the envelope with her left hand, while carefully extracting the letter with her right hand. she then secretly placed the envelope in the bag by her side.
She looked down carefully at the paper, folded in three. One more casual glance in Nick's direction. As he remained busy, she unfolded the two page letter.
No date, No address, the first page as always, written on the continuation paper.
'My Darling Ria' the first night of the dream in Nainital, followed by the first night they had slept together. Two firsts on the same night, he had remarked, 'I m sitting in my bedroom, compiling these beautiful thoughts, only momemts after you left me. This is the third attempt, as i cant find the right words to let you know how really i feel'.
Gia smiled. For a man who has made his fortune with words, that must have been quite difficult for him to admit.
' Last night you were everything a man could ask from a lover. You were exiting, tender, teasing, beautiful, poisionous and...'
' Its been a year since we met at wai(a place near Panchgani) and as i have often told you, i wanted you to come back with me that evening. I lay awake all night imagining you lying next to the foolish.' Gia glanced across the table to see that Nick had reached the back page of the paper.
'And then there was that chance meeting at mess- but it was still to be another 11 days before you were unfaithful for the first time, and then not the foolish was away in Nainital. That night went far too quickly for me.
'I cant imagine what that prune would have made of it, if he had seen you in your maids outfit. He'd have probably assumed that you always tidied up the drawing room in the Woodstock hotel in the white see-thru blouse, no bra, a skin tight black leather skirt with a zip to the front, long heels and not forgetting your lipstick.'
Gia looked up again and wondered if she was blushing. If he had really enjoyed himself that much, she would have to go for it again. She continued reading the letter...
'My darling, there is no aspect of our lovemaking that i dont relish, but i confess that what turns me on the most is the places you choose when you can take only an hour off..I recall every one of them...On the back seat of your car, the service lift, the loo at the hotel, but the most exiting of all was that of the little box in the dresscircle & obviously in the steps of ur place.'
Gia giggled and quickly placed the letter back into her lap as Nick peered round the side of his newspaper.
'What made you laugh my dear?' he asked
' The picture of jamesbond landing in the dome', Nick looked puzzled- on the front page of the paper.
'Ah, yes' he smiled and returned to the business section.
'What maddens me most about ur trip to with your idiotic friends Alpa Rupani is the thought of you and prune in the same bed. I've tried to convince myself that they are all well mannered'.
Gia nodded, as wishing to tell him that he has guessed correctly.
'And does he really snore like hell, and, dressed shabbily, as thought to fashionably designed by Armani'.
This time Gia burst out laughing, and was only rescued by Alpa rising from his end of the table to enquire, 'Anyone care to make up 4 for tennis? The weatherforecast is predicting that the snowfall will stop long before the morning is out'.
'I'll be happy to join you', said Gia, secreting the letter back under the table.
'How about you, Nick?' asked Alpa.
Gia watched her husband folding up the paper and then he shook his head.
Oh my God, ' thought Gia. he is badly dressed.
I'd love to, said Nick, but i m afraid i have to make a phone call.
As, they continued their chatting Gia didn't responded as she was bearing him from past seven years.
Nick glanced towards her and said- if you need me im in the bedroom
She was about to return to the letter when she noticed that Nick had left his glasses on the table she would take them when she returns to the room.
She moved to the next page-
'Let me tell you what i have planned for our anniversary weekend while the prune is away at his conference at Delhi. I've booked us back to wai, so we'll be in the same room in which we spent our first night together. This time there will be a change in the atmosphere.'
'I want to be tied to a 4-corner bed, with you standing over me in a police sergent's uniform: whistle, handcuffs & black outfit. you're not to release me until i scream at the top of noise, the way you did in the parking lot.'
Until then,
'Your loving...........'
Gia raised her head and smiled wondering that from where she could get her hands on the police sergant's uniform. She was about to turn back to the front page and read the letter all over again when she noticed a note with three underlines-
NOTE--- 'I wonder what the prune is up to right now'.
Gia looked up to see that Nick's glasses were not there.
'What scoundrel could write such a letter to a married women?' demanded Nick as he adjusted his glasses.
Gia turned horrified to see her husband behind and staring at the letter, beads of sweat appearing on his forehead.
'Dont ask me' she said calmly as Alpa appeared from that side with tennis racket in her hand.
Gia folded the letter, passed it over to her oldest pal and said-
'FASCINATING, MY DEAR , BUT FOR YOUR SAKE I DO HOPE NOBODY NEVER FINDS OUT'.
